Fortescue Metals Group

Pilbara Region, Western Australia, Australia

After undertaking the preliminary, bankable and detailed feasibility study phases for Solomon mine, our Projects division was further engaged to provide detailed engineering design and support for the mine infrastructure development.

The development of the Solomon mine took place in two stages. Stage 1 encompassed the 20Mtpa firetail deposit, while Stage 2 involved the 40Mtpa Kings deposit.

Solomon Infrastructure

Our team provided engineering design and construction packages for both stages, with the scope of works including:

  • Stockyard
  • Conveyors
  • Train load-out
  • Roads, drainage and earth pads
  • Airstrip
  • Camps, buildings and facilities
  • Power and communications
  • Water and fuel, and
  • Acting as the owner’s engineer as required.
The Firetail Ore Processing Facility was commissioned early 2013, boosting Fortescue’s production in support of the annual production rate target of 155Mtpa.
