Santos LTE Study
Perth, Western Australia and Adelaide, South Australia
Calibre’s Technologies divisions undertook a desktop RF coverage analysis of the Cooper Basin area using LTE technology.
The purpose of the analysis was firstly to determine the extent of RF coverage from 32 existing Radio Base Station (RBS) sites, and if additional infill RBS sites were required to provide full RF coverage to all Wellheads, Satellites and other remote facilities within the Cooper Basin (520km x 250km).
The RF coverage analysis modeling was carried out using Mentum Planet. The two main fundamental technical assumptions on which the analysis was carried out were that either the 1800MHz and 2100MHz frequencies bands would be used and that the LTE system should be designed and optimised for the communication of SCADA/Telemetry type data.
Our team produced a Scope of Work document to be put out to tender for the provision of a private LTE system to operate over the Cooper Basin area. The document included the detailed requirements for design, build, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the LTE system by the Contractor. We additionally produced a LTE Design and Implementation Standard for Santos’ future use.
