This six-stage development of 225 residential lots with a total site area of 32ha is part of the East Rangiora Outline Development Plan. The Canterbury earthquakes saw the development stages prioritised to make much-needed housing available early. The infrastructure was completed in tandem with the building works and all construction for initial stages was completed within the specified time-frame.
Working collaboratively with the client’s geotechnical team, Calibre provided the planning, consent, environmental and civil design. The development area had a high water table with a confined aquifer below, which was hydraulically linked to layers of peat of varying depths. The challenge was to maximise the number of units within the planning framework and site-specific conditions.
