White Quartz Road was constructed to enable direct access to the Brockman 4 mine site, removing the need to travel through the Brockman 2 mine site.
Calibre was engaged as the engineering procurement and construction management (EPCM) provider for this greenfield development on behalf of Rio Tinto Iron Ore Expansion Projects.
The two-lane fully sealed road is just over 40 kilometres in length and runs from Nanutarra Road directly to the Brockman 4 mine site. The landscape is undulating and the road winds through Nameless Valley, west of Tom Price, in the Pilbara.
During construction, three major flood ways were constructed with a total length of 5.85km of culverts. Additionally, a total of 870 guideposts and 60 sign posts were installed.
The Brockman 4 mine site is located approximately 25km south-west of Rio Tinto’s existing Brockman 2 mine and 60km north-west of Tom Price.
The project was completed on schedule and budget, with an exemplary safety record.
